WELCOME
BACK!!!
Where did summer go? I hardly had
time to dip my toes in the ocean! I hope you were able to find peace and
renewal. As I begin my third year at Shady Grove, I do have some
interesting observations. We are growing!! I don't necessarily mean
in numbers, although we may be. We are growing in our diversity. It
is very exciting! We have new students this year from across the United
States and across the Atlantic Ocean. What a great opportunity for us all
to learn from each other!
Also, students seem to have an
abundance of energy! This could be "summer left-over" or a
feeling of sheer joy at having returned to school. Hopefully, we can
channel some of this energy into creative learning!
I was part of a wonderful celebration this morning. The fourth grade
students made pinwheels for peace, and displayed them in the front of the
building in the shape of the peace sign to signify International Peace
Day. The pinwheels spun merrily in the wind. It was a beautiful
sign of hope.
What I hope for our students this year is peace in the world as well as in
their hearts. I hope they all will experience joy and happiness and
acceptance for who they are and who they want to become. I hope their
minds are filled with as much knowledge as they can stand, and that they wish
for more. As parents and teachers, I hope we are always there to listen
and instruct and help them reach all of these goals. And I also hope that
along the way, we share in the peace and joy and happiness.
Have a great year!
Sincerely,
Katie Haig
